Parent Participation Award
The club was very proud to win the Parent Participation award from Hamersley Centre for season 2012/13. KLAC has a very strong tradition of excellent Set-up and Pack-away teams. Again, last season our parents involved in these activities set a high standard. It is for this reason we received the trophy below.
Coach Richard on Show
Our very own Richard Aitken (Head Coach Mondays) has a piece entered in the Sculpture by the Bay competition this weekend down at Dunsborough. See pic below.
Good luck Richard, let us know how you go!

Fuelling and Cooling the Junior Athlete
Ensuring our kids are eating and drinking the correct foods and liquid before, during and after competition is important. Click on the button to be directed to a very informative article on the subject.
Parent Resources & Help
Helping out during Saturday morning competition is a vital part of your role as a parent of a little athlete. We understand this can be daunting at first, but believe me, in no time you will completely confident that you are lending a valuable hand and making a difference. To assist you we have uploaded a number of videos produced by Little Athletics Australia that focus on the key parent duties at the main events our kids compete in during competition.
If you're new to Little Athletics, or have not felt confident enough to dive in and lend a hand I implore you to view the videos. Click on the button below to get to the videos.

Reminder about roster duties
A reminder to all parents its essential you perform all allocated roster duties for the remainder of the season. And if you're one of the families on the duty roster back-up list and you are emailed by our Roster Coordinator to fill a spot please put up your hand and do the right thing by the club, kids and other parents. We had large numbers wanting to join our club this season, and many families missed out after we hit our cut off number. It maybe necessary in future seasons to review fulfilment of roster duties in previous season as a requirement of registration each year.
An enjoyable Xmas BBQ
We had great weather for our annual Xmas BBQ on Thursday 1st December. Our usual training program gave way to fun and games for the kids with the "training" session coming to an end with the highly anticipated parents race. Line honours in the ladies race went to Wendy Whalan, with Graham Jenkins taking out the men's event. Congrats to you both, hope you enjoyed the wine!
Congratulations also to the winners of the Mid-season Personal Best awards. It was really close in all age categories and I'm looking forward to seeing continued big efforts in the second half of the season.
We were fortunate to have a special guest join us, Sharon Cooke, Stirling Councilor Hamersley Ward. Sharon was instrumental in securing an upgrade to our long jump pit last year, and we hope she can now assist us in getting approval for a second throws circle. In her address to the families and kids on the night Sharon applauded the efforts of all volunteers at the club and expressed delight in the numbers of kids maintaining an active lifestyle through their involvement in Little Athletics. Thanks Sharon, your attendance and words were appreciated.
I'd also like to thanks Bryan and Helen for their work behind the BBQ and all the other parents who assisted on the night.
Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year!

70's Training Handbooks
Found some coaching handbooks from the 70's during a Hamersley clean up. Thought the artwork and fashions would add some colour to our site. Trevor (one of our coaches) would prefer if the child with the shot put was holding it much closer to her neck!
We are always seeking extra Coaches
The more coaches we have at Karrinyup Little Athletics the better experience our kids will gain from their participation in the sport.
If you feel you could commit to coaching our kids for one training seesion per week during the season please come and speak to one of our coaches or send us an email at info-karrinyup@hamersleyaths.com. The club is able to fund a limited number of positions at Level 1 accredited coaching courses each season.
Anyone interested in getting a feel for coaching is welcome to buddy up with one of our accredited coaches during a training session. Feel free to speak to Richard Aitken, our head coach, prior to a one of our training sessions.
